Capital Thimphu is also known for Tashichhodzong and Budha Dordenma AKA as Budha point. One of the unique culture of Bhutan is to house both Administration (local) and the Religious Body in one building. This has been practiced for ages and believed to be a protection from invasion from Tibet. Tashichhodzong also houses various Ministries and Dratshang Lhentshog (Main Religious Body) of the Country. The Dzong was initially built in 1216 AD and completely rebuilt by the Third King Jigme Dorji Wangchuk in 1952. Initially built without a single nail, the main Administrative Building of the Country, Tashichhodzong has an office for His Majesty the King and His Holiness Je Khempo (Head Abbot). On the other hand, Budha Dordenma popularly known as budha point is located slightly away from the city and constructed at an altitude of more than 3000 meters above sea level known as Kuenselphodrang Nature Park and overlooks the Southern entrance to Thimphu Valley. This massive statue of Shakyamuni measures a height of 51.5 meters, making it one of the largest statues of Buddha in the world. The statue is made of bronze and gilded in gold. 125,000 smaller Buddha statues have been placed within the Buddha Dordenma statue, 100,000 of 8 inches tall and 25,000 of 12 inches tall statues respectively. Each of these thousands of Buddhas have also been cast in bronze and gilded. The throne that Buddha Dordenma sits upon is a large meditation hall. The Budha statue is believed to emanate an aura of peace and happiness to the entire world.
